Following much conversation about a potential career transition to become a developer, it was time to stop talking and start doing. Que - The Odin Project.
I had a go at a few basic tutorials of HTML & CSS and was recommended to give The Odin Project a go. As I'm a person who enjoys some structure, this was a great option to provide more structure and a great support network if I ran into problems. All the whilst remaining free. What a beautiful community and great introduction to newbies such as myself!
My first project was a recreation of the Google homepage using HTML & CSS. It was a blessing and a curse all in one that has helped me learn a lot, mainly about CSS if I'm being honest. It was a great first project. Something I think is a good project for anyone new to coding.
My next project saw the implementation of a new language, JavaScript. With this tricky language, I was to create a "Rock, Paper, Scissors" game. I don't see the point in hiding things. I found this incredibly challenging. I still haven't completely grasped the syntax or logic. The way you approach the problem is completely different to how one would normally. Thankfully, it isn't too complex and was able to complete it. It did however feel like there should have been a medal for those who complete it though and I'm sure there will be similar feelings in future 🙃.
What's the verdict? I couldn't recommend it enough! It's a great resource (that's free!) and has a great supportive community if you need as well. 10/10 give it a go if you're interested in learning to code!
